How I work: Early WIPs of Jewel

I had some early WIPs (works in progress) of Jewel, and this time I saved some very early in the work. So here is some of the early steps of my Jewel painting =) I actually did 2 color studies, I included below the direction we decided to go in.

Fun to see. (agh... I might have to buckle down and really learn Photoshop one of these days... Don't you miss paint and paper? At all?)

Actual paint, no not really... In my life Ive painted with oil, acrylic, watercolor and gouache. I didnt like the smell of oil and acrylic. (Oil and its extras gave me headaches, I also like the easy clean up on the computer ;) I did okay with watercolor but I do like Gouache (a few gouache pieces are on my site). I would like to go back to it (eventually) and maybe ink. I got the impression I would like egg tempra, but I missed it when it was demostrated.

I do enjoy Pencil, quite alot and do all my drawings for the pieces by hand (I will miss pencil if I work at the computer to long). I like scratch board, colored pencil, and ink as well. I had fun when I worked with pastel (but that was a long time ago). Silver point and litho printing was fascinating.
